Chapter 13

“So glad you decided to come home,” Thomas says, turning on the light on his nightstand.

“Really Thomas? You want to do this right now?”

“Yes Camille. I thought after this nomination, the other life shit you were doing would have stopped but—”

“Other life shit?”

“Yea, you doing whatever else you’re doing.”

“I don’t have another life and I’m just about sick of this one.”

“Then why are we still playing this crazy ass game?”

“I don’t know, Thomas, but you seem to have the answer to everything so why don’t you tell me?”

“I don’t know because I don’t know you.”

“I’m so sick of you saying that. How can you not know me when I’m the same person I’ve always been? I haven’t changed. I’ve been the same since we got married. I’m the same person you fucked the first night we met. I’m the same person who will fuck you wherever, whenever and however you like. I am the same wife who will bring another woman into our bed to fulfill your fantasy—”

“Stop! Because just like you’re sick of me saying that, I’m sick of you throwing that in my face. I know all of that.”

“No, you don’t, because you are the first motherfucker to say you don’t know me when the truth is, I don’t know you.”

“What?” he asks, looking confused.

“Here you are acting like you are Mr. Goody when you are the one that has a baby on the way. At least my sin didn’t produce another human.”

“And just because I can’t see or touch your sin, does it make it any less wrong?”

“I didn’t say it did but what I’m saying is, stop judging me when you are no saint.”

“I’m not judging you, Camille. I know I made a mistake by sleeping with Chelle and getting her pregnant but I’ve owned up to my mistake. It’s a mistake I wish I could go back and undo and it’s one I wouldn’t make again, but can you say the same thing?”

“Can I say the same thing about what?”

“The mistakes you’re making.”

“I’m trying to fix my mistakes. Why do you think I’m still in those fucking therapy sessions? But I get tired of coming home to an argument with you every damn day and night, Thomas. I’m tired of it.”

“Then change it. You can change all this.”

“And what would you have me to do? Since you have the answer to everything, tell me.”

“By changing.”

“What would you like me to change, sir? I’ll make a list.”

“There’s only one thing that needs to be changed: your personal life.”

“My personal life includes you. Are you saying I need to change you too?”

“Dammit Camille, you know exactly what I mean. You never take anything seriously. Keep playing until you find everything you claim you love gone.”

“I’m not playing—”

“Yes, you are. You are playing about whoever it is that’s stalking you until they stop playing and hurt you. You are playing with this secret life shit until the media gets a hold of it and it ruins your career.
